Alphabet City

Alphabet City was a community art space celebrating print and words, previously located in Eden Terrace, Auckland from March 2011 — December 2013. Moira Clunie and Erin Fae founded the space and served as co-directors. Alphabet City was named after a bustling diverse neighbourhood east of the East Village in New York City.

Alphabet City provided space and resources for anyone excited by letterpress printing, bookbinding, zines, printmaking and book arts. We hosted workshops, events, idea exchanges, exhibitions and housed the Alphabet City Zine Library, New Zealand’s largest zine library.

As Alphabet City, we hosted a monthly Letter Writing Club, taught workshops and collaborated with other groups, such as Auckland Zine Fest, #ScribbleAKL and First Thursdays.
